August 13, 2019 was the “Day with Journalists” at the Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, as it included interviews with employees of a Ukrainian newspaper, a Dutch print publication and a telephone conversation with representatives of this ancient profession.
“With journalist Oksana Hvozdik, we have been good friends and partners since her work on regional radio. Now Ms. Oksana works in the newspaper and, together with Valerii Kravchenko, interviewed me about interesting details of my work at school, university, military service etc. It seems that my memories were more like a stand-up or humoresque than an interview; however, this will become clearer after publication in the newspaper”, - says Mr. Igor Shchupak, director of Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”. – But, on the other hand, the conversation with a guest from the Netherlands, Michiel Driebergen, correspondent for the newspaper “Trouw” (the Netherlands) was very serious because its topic was the socio-political situation in Ukraine and Dnipro, Dnipro Jewish community history and its modern development. Now, Michiel is researching what the Jewish citizens live today, preparing a lot of material for his newspaper. In the framework of the visit, Mr. Michiel Driebergen visited Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” where Dr. Denys Shatalov, head of Scientific department conducted for him a museum tour. Dr. Denys Shatalov paid special attention to the museum creation concept as well as its main message “There is no somebody else’s pain”.
In addition, we had the honor to present to Mr. Michiel the books published by our partner – the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter, – in particular, “Jews and Ukrainians: a Millennium of Co-existence” by Paul Robert Magocsi and Yohanan Petrovsky-Shtern, which will be useful for writing an extensive article for the Dutch newspaper.
We are waiting soon for newspaper texts – interesting and, maybe objective)))
