Most people whose childhood and youth fell in the Soviet period know Vladimir Belyaev (1909-1990) from his trilogy “The Old Fortress”. The novel is one of the most popular works, was written in the late 1930s and has been reprinted many times since then. However, V. Belyaev wrote not only for children. He is the author of one of the first works in the history of Soviet literature dedicated to the Holocaust in Lviv – the documentary essay “Light in the Darkness”. The writer's work includes numerous journalistic essays, film scripts, etc.
The writer, his works, as well as little-known pages of his biography, could be learned this Friday, May 15, during an online lecture by the Deputy Director for Scientific Work of Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, Candidate of Historical Sciences Yehor Vradii, for an audience of participants in the programs of the Hesed Menachem Charitable Foundation. This and other classes are part of a large-scale educational project of the Museum and the Hesed Menachem Charitable Foundation.
We believe that such historical and literary meetings will continue in the future.
