Presentation of the exhibition “HUMANITY OVER THE ABYSS OF HELL”

21.10.2025

On October 20, the Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” conducted a presentation of the mobile exhibition “Humanity over the Abyss of Hell.” The project was implemented by the NGO “Center for Studies of Memory Policy and Public History “Mnemonics” (Rivne), and its authors are a group of professional historians – Prof. Maksym Hon, Dr. Nataliya Ivchyk, and Dr. Petro Dolganov.

The presentation of the exhibition was opened by the director of the Museum, Dr. Iryna Radchenko, who reminded those present of the relevance and importance of such exhibitions in the conditions of the full-scale criminal war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The Chairman of the Board and Project Manager of the NGO “Center for Studies of Memory Policy and Public History “Mnemonics” Dr. Kateryna Popova addressed the guests of the event via video link. She said that the exhibition “Humanity over the Abyss of Hell” is dedicated to a time of unprecedented bloodshed in the history of mankind, one of the most tragic pages of the past – World War II. It was emphasized that in those years, in particular, the Holocaust and the genocide of the Roma took place in Ukraine and Volyn. In addition, the victims of the sharp aggravation of interethnic relations in 1943–1944 against the backdrop of the world war were also Ukrainians, Poles, and Czechs. The ominous marker of wartime misery was the crisis of humanity, and humanity found itself above the abyss of evil. Despite the conditions of terror and fear, there were brave people who dared to save others. The exhibition is dedicated to the personal stories of those rescuers – ordinary people of different ethnic origins and religions, who valued human life above all else.

At the end of the meeting, a discussion took place, during which questions were raised regarding the specifics of selecting stories for the exhibition, regional characteristics, etc.

The exhibition will be on display at the Museum until November 23, 2025. You can visit the exhibition on Wednesdays and Sundays, from 10:00 to 19:00 (entrance to the Museum until 18:00).
