The “Jewish Heritage” project – for the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II

08.05.2025

On the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II, the Hesed Menachem Foundation and the Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” offered the Open Lecture students another lesson as part of the “Jewish Heritage” project.

Today, May 8, 2025, Museum researcher Daria Yesina held a meeting with regular and new participants.

The lesson was dedicated to the tragic fate of the Dnipropetrovsk Jew, Hero of the Soviet Union Lev Abramovich Gitman. The lecture participants learned about the fate of the Hero, whose name is associated with the liberation of our city. The Hero of the Dnipro crossing was awarded the highest award of the Soviet Union at the end of 1943. But ten years later he was deprived of the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on an absurd charge... The vicissitudes of Lev Gitman's life caused a lively discussion: for what did the man suffer?

The meeting ended with a minute of silence in memory of the Heroes of World War II and the fallen defenders of Ukraine.
