Holy Trinity Day, also Pentecost, Green Sunday is one of the main Christian holidays, which symbolizes the appearance (descent) of the Most High before people in all three guises in the image of the Holy Trinity: G-d the Father, G-d the Son and G-d of the Holy Spirit. The Feast of the Trinity also means the completion of the earthly works of the Most High, which were needed for the salvation of mankind from sin, and is also interpreted as the feast of life. The date of the celebration of the Trinity is transitional and is associated with Easter and is celebrated on the 50th day after it.
The Trinity is a New Testament holiday, but it echoes the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which is celebrated on the 50th day after Pesach – the exodus of the people of Israel from Egyptian slavery. According to the Old Testament, on this day G-d gave the Torah to the Jews on Mount Sinai through Moses. On this day, Jews decorate their houses and synagogues with greenery and flowers in memory of the vegetation around Mount Sinai.
On the Trinity, Orthodox churches hold services and read prayers. Believers visit the church to light candles and pray for the health of relatives and friends, as well as to ask G-d to fulfill their innermost desires. Since ancient times, the Trinity has been considered a symbol of the flowering of nature and the beginning of a new life. According to an established Ukrainian tradition, on the eve of the Trinity, churches and homes are decorated with green tree branches (klechania), flowers and summer herbs. It is traditionally believed that herbs and greens protect the home from evil and troubles, and medicinal plants collected on this day have a special power to heal the sick.
We sincerely congratulate you on the holiday, wish you health, strength and good deeds!
Victory and peace to Ukraine!
