Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” together with “Hesed Menachem” continues its educational meetings within the framework of the “Jewish Heritage” project. A year ago, the first session of the open lecture hall took place. It is symbolic that the beginning of the project fell on the day of one of the brightest Jewish holidays – Hanukkah. The light of knowledge, sincere communication, common empathy did not leave project participants and lecturers throughout the year.
Today, December 11, 2023, the researcher of the Museum Dilfuza Hlushchenko held a meeting with regular and new participants of the open lecture. The other day, in addition to the celebration of Hanukkah, there was another event that was eagerly awaited by the entire scientific community of the world - the awarding of the Nobel Prize laureates. During the entire history of the award, among its laureates there was a significant number of representatives of the Jewish people. On the occasion of these unusual circumstances, a new class was dedicated to Zelman Waxman, a native of Ukraine, the national pride of the USA, a Nobel Prize laureate in physiology and medicine, the inventor of streptomycin and a number of other drugs that led to revolutionary changes in medicine. The listeners learned not only about the biographical data of the outstanding scientist, but also about the little-known details of his life. The most interesting thing was the fact that the researcher was inspired to work on a new drug by thoughts about Ukrainian chernozem. The story about considerable difficulties on the way to success, which Zelman Waxman overcame thanks to his hard work, patience, and perseverance, caused a lively discussion among the participants. At the end of the meeting, there were many wishes regarding the topics of the next classes. So, it will be further.
