Museum "Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine" recieved new book
Binet L. HHhH: Himmlers Hirn heißt Heydrich / transl. from French by O. Les'ko. Kharkiv: Vivat, 2018. 352 p.
Laurent Binet's historical novel «Himmlers Hirn heißt Heydrich», a French teacher translated into 40 languages, became a bestseller in several countries and won the Goncourt Prize (2010).
The book was published in French in 2010, and was first translated into Ukrainian in 2018.
The plot of the novel is based on historical events with the use of artistic means and the involvement of historical figures. The novel tells about Operation Anthropoid in Prague in 1942. Two Czechoslovak saboteurs, Josef Gabčyk and Jan Kubiš, sent from London, are tasked with destroying one of the Nazi leaders, Reinhard Heydrich, the head of the Gestapo, the head of the Nazi special services. , who planned a "final solution to the Jewish question." Heydrich was Himmler's right hand , "Himmlers Hirn heißt Heydrich" (ie "Himmler's head is called Heydrich"), as the SS himself often called him.
Chronologically, the historical story is intertwined with a description of the process of researching the topic by the author and writing a book. The publication is accompanied by comments from the author and other literary and media means of interpreting this topic, as well as reflections on the extent to which the behavior of real people can be adjusted as needed to write a historical novel.
