Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” together with “Hesed Menachem” continues its educational activities within the framework of the “Jewish Heritage” project. Today, on March 13, 2024, the Museum researcher Dilfuza Glushchenko held a meeting with regular and new participants of the open lecture.

The recent heated debates between fans of March 8 as a holiday of “spring and femininity” and those who insisted that it is, after all, “International Women's Day” have provided a very interesting topic for discussion. After all, the issue of women's rights is relevant throughout the year and is sensitive for a large part of society. The opportunities enjoyed by the majority of women in the world these days appeared as a result of the long and painstaking work of activists, representatives of political and public movements in various countries of the world. Based on these considerations, the new lesson was dedicated to an outstanding public figure of the State of Israel, who throughout her life sincerely and consistently defended the ideas of feminism. Thanks to her, the main laws for the protection and equality of women were formulated and adopted, namely the Law on the Age of Marriage, the Law on Women's Work, the Law on Marriage and Divorce. Streets in the cities of Ashdod, Rishon LeZion, Beer Sheva, Herzliya, Kiryat Chaim are named after this amazing woman. It was about Beba Idelson (Trachtenberg) – a native of Katerynoslav, an activist of the Zionist movement, a member of the fifth Knesset. Her words “...one of the signs of a progressive country is the status of women and the guarantee of laws that take care of her as a worker, as a mother, as a citizen” remain relevant 55 years later.

The provided information sparked a lively conversation, the participants of which expressed their reflections and views on the updated interpretation of the holiday. In addition, for many of them, the figure of Beba Idelson was completely unknown before, so the biographical presentation about her greatly interested the listeners and once again reminded that the Jewish heritage is multifaceted. So, let's learn something interesting together!
